Mary Seiberling Huhn recalls her teenage memories of her mother, Henrietta Seiberling's participation in the Oxford Group and the development of Henrietta's new consciousness as a result of its teachings.

She recounts her mother's desire to help her dear friend, Dr. Bob Smith who was struggling with alcoholism.

In striking detail, Mrs. Huhn describes the day Bill Wilson called Henrietta from the Mayflower Hotel and her mother's invitation to Bill to come visit her in the Gate Lodge.

On May 11, 1935, when Bill Wilson visited Henrietta, Mrs. Huhn and her sister Dorothy hid behind the curtains in the living room of the Gate Lodge and listened to them talk. After Bill told Henrietta his story, her immediate response was, “you've got to talk to my friend Bob Smith.”

The next day, May 12, 1935, Henrietta introduced Bill Wilson to Dr. Bob Smith in the Gate Lodge.

As a result of this meeting, Bill W. and Dr. Bob formed a lasting relationship and founded Alcoholics Anonymous.

Mrs. Huhn also recalls the first meetings with alcoholics in the Gate Lodge.
